Part 2: Massachusetts Licensees Obtaining Real Estate Licensure in Other States
If you hold a real estate license in Massachusetts, you may be interested in practicing in our surrounding states. Many MA licensees also practice in CT, RI, NH and beyond! Let’s take a look at the requirements.
Get a reciprocal real estate in CONNECTICUT
An applicant must have passed a national uniform written examination in MA and must have an active license in good standing. A certification of license history is required from the licensing authority in every state in which you currently hold or have held a real estate license. The Massachusetts Board must confirm you took an examination. Salespersons: Your sponsoring broker must have an “Active” Connecticut license.

Get a reciprocal real estate in RHODE ISLAND
SALESPERSONS: A completed Real Estate Salesperson Application; Criminal History Record (CHR) from the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General’s office, as well as a CHR from applicant’s home state law enforcement agency; Tax Payer Status Affidavit / Identity Verification; Certificate of a three hour course in Lead Poisoning/Lead Hazard; Certificate of Errors and Omissions Insurance; Certificate of Licensure/Letter of Good Standing from home state’s licensing authority; an irrevocable Power of Attorney Form for service of process.

Get a reciprocal real estate in NEW HAMPSHIRE
If an applicant holds an active MA real estate broker or salesperson license in good standing, and issued by examination in accordance with the laws of MA, that applicant may apply for and be granted an original New Hampshire license by first taking the New Hampshire portion of the licensing examination, provided the jurisdiction that issued such nonresident license has previously entered into a licensing reciprocity agreement which has been approved by the commission, and provided that other requirements of the commission have been met. This section applies to nonresident salesperson applicants only when such applicants are applying for an original New Hampshire salesperson license. (CHAPTER 331-A

Get a reciprocal real estate in MAINE
An equal license may be issued to any person who holds a current and active real estate license in another jurisdiction after meeting the requirements for the license. Upon completion of the requirements, the applicant is eligible to become licensed by the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation to offer, attempt to conduct or to conduct services on behalf of another for compensation which includes, but is not limited to, listing real estate for sale; promoting the purchase, sale or exchange of real estate; buying, advertising or holding oneself out as offering specific services defined by law and selling or exchanging real estate [reference 32 MRSA Chapter 114 §13001 “Definitions”]. Pass the Maine Law examination administered by Pearson Vue . All candidates qualifying by reciprocity must pass this examination regardless of the level of license currently held. Applicants must furnish Verification of Licensure in good standing from any state where a license is held or has been held and verification must indicate whether or not there has been any disciplinary action taken.

Get a reciprocal real estate in VERMONT
To qualify to be licensed, an applicant must be licensed or certified in good standing in another jurisdiction in which the standards and qualifications required for regulation in that jurisdiction are substantially equivalent to Vermont’s.
1. Complete online application and pay the non-refundable processing fee.
2. Complete the State exam (available within the application) and upload the exam answer sheet with your application.
3. Verification of employment/supervision form.
4. Provide Official Verification and the licensure requirements from your original state of licensure and from your most recent state of licensure, if different. This must be submitted directly from the state.
5. Verification of Licensure form. Provide verification of your most current state of licensure. Verification must show proof of continuous licensure in good standing for 3 years preceding the date of this application.

Note that the brokerage does not need to be the same franchise or company that you are affiliated with in Massachusetts.
